June 19 – The Milan Design Film Festival will be in Paris for a day. The communication project is dedicated to the dissemination “of design and creativity,” sponsored by the City of Milan and Expo 2015; the 2014 edition will be held October 9-12 in Milan. The organizers have selected four documentaries for the Italian Institute of Culture in Paris, and they will be screened today during a day of meetings and discussions. “La forza del carattere” is the title of the event that welcomes four major experts in the field: Carlo Scarpa, Piero Fornasetti, Michele De Lucchi and Ron Gilad. “Four examples of uniqueness – reads a note from the IIC – not overlapping identities. They belong to different eras and are sometimes even at opposite ends. Their histories, languages, representations, and projects interact with time and respond to different needs. Yet their stories all show that they have something they have in common: the ability to cross the boundaries of creativity without fear, masters of translating their visions into objects.” The Milan Design Film Festival will bring four films centered around these men and their stories. They focus on the details and nuances essential to understand the mind and labor behind a project. The language of the documentary film, halfway between entertainment and education, makes it a unique learning experience. “What makes a project unique? – ask the organizers – It is the idea and vision, but also the will to follow your own destiny. It is the strength of character that shapes life.”
