June 23 – Opened in recent days and running until August 20, the exhibition “From Street to Art” is the first overview of Italian street art told through the works of 10 contemporary artists. The show, curated by Simone Pallotta, is on display at the Italian Cultural Institute of New York. The exhibit brings together for the first time the personalities that shaped the Italian street art movement during the last decade: Agostino Iacurci, Aris, BR1, Cyop&Kaf, Dem, Eron, Hitnes, Sten&Lex, Ufo5, and 2501. Hitnes and BR1 attended the opening event. “The goal is to show the evolution of a new generation of Italian Street Artist, with a common urban presence and a spatial approach, but dissimilar in styles and content. New York since the 1970s inspired the birth of a new urban culture that took over the world with a renewed mode of thinking art and public spaces. With the group of Italian street artist, we observe a strong and independent creative propulsion that led some of them to restructure their art within more formal schemes, distancing himself from graffiti art but always maintaining a close relationship with the public.”
