July 21 – Friuli Venezia Giulia contributes to help young Afghan patients via the support program to the hemophilia center within the Esteqlal hospital of Kabul. The Italian Region donated the coagulation factor IX necessary to cure patients with hemophilia B. Factor IX is a serine protease and is derived from the processing of plasma of blood donors. It plays a key role in the blood coagulation system, as the lack of this protein causes hemophilia B, a blood clotting disorder. The program, supported by the Regional Health System Councilor, Sandra Maria Telesca, is part of the international cooperation project coordinated by the National Blood Centre with the support of the Ministry of Defense. The drugs were delivered to Kabul by the Italian Air Force.
