Islamabad – The President of the Piedmont Region, Sergio Chiamaparino, complimented himself with mountain guide Michele Cucchi on his recent climb of the K2: “I wish to compliment the Piedmont mountain guide for his achievement, sixty years after the first Italian expedition. Cucchi, who lives and works in Alagna, is an example that does honor to the Piedmont region. His cry ‘We are on top!’ is a symbol of the perseverance and determination with which he carried out a difficult and ambitious feat: a climb in full respect for the environment and for the mountain area and in cooperation between Italian and Pakistani guides.” K2, also known as Mount Godwin-Austen, ChogoRi or Dapsang, is located in the Karakoram Himalayas, and stands 8,611 meters above sea level. It’s the second highest mountain after Mount Everest, and it sits on the border between the part of Kashmir controlled by Pakistan and the Tajik Tashkurgan Autonomous Province of Xinjiang, China.
