Freetown – A European mobile laboratory will be sent from Italy in Sierra Leone to help contain the spread of Ebola, confirms the Scientific Director of Rome’s Spallanzani, Giuseppe Ippolito. The lab was originally intended to Tanzania, but the emergency situation in Sierra Leone has prompted the WHO to request international efforts take a new direction. Currently, Sierra Leone, where cinemas and stadiums have been closed and there are severe restrictions on people movement, is the most affected state by Ebola, with 717 cases and 298 deaths. The Italian lab joins another facility, always managed by Spallanzani, in Guinea. It has not yet been decided who will work in the laboratory, which could also include Italian staff. (9Colonne)
