Sept. 1 – A thousand years of history unites the towns of Amalfi and Birgu, in Malta. From Amalfi, Gerardo da Scala went to Jerusalem where he founded a hospital and a church, giving rise to the order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, which later moved to Cyprus and then Malta. The historical link has been rekindled today thanks to a special partnership between the two citie. The City of Amalfi voted unanimously to adopt the twinning decree, in the presence of the Maltese Ambassador to Italy, Vanessa Freizer, the Bali Knight John Critien, also a member of the Council of the Knights of Malta, and the Birgu delegation accompanied by mayor John Boxall.
