Oslo – A new telemetry and flight control system is currently being tested by the University La Sapienza in Rome. Launched on August 17 in the Arctic (from Longyearbyen, Svalbard Islands, the northernmost part of Norway), the stratospheric balloon of 35000 m3 quickly reached the operational altitude of 37 km. Its flight lasted 8 days. The system is being used for the Olimpo mission, a telescope designed by the same team dedicated to the study of the early universe and the first galaxy clusters. The flight program, coordinated by Silvia Masi, professor in the Department of Physics, was co-funded by the Italian Space Agency and the University of Rome. (9Colonne)
