Oct. 17 – Faces, hands, gestures, environments and tools: these are key elements in Vincenzo Cottinelli’s photographic exhibition. One of the most important living Italian photographers made his debut in Prague, at the Italian Institute of Culture, with an event open to the public until November 7. In over twenty years of activity, Cottinelli has produced numerous portraits of artists and celebrities (including those exposed in Prague: Dario Fo, Umberto Eco, Vincenzo Consolo, Claudio Magris, and David Grossman). While portaits are present, the focus of the Prague exhibition lies in the construction of a narrative sequence of gestures, creative movements of hands, tools and work environments, in a dense network of connections and references. Everything is in monochrome shots, because “photographs in black and white combined with the perceptible superiority of silver salt tones help capture the essence of thoughtful faces and the spirit of things, going beyond their colored surface,” explains the artist.
