Cairo – The Italian-Egyptian program Debt For Develompment Swap and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) successfully completed their initiative within the “Food for education” project today. The aim of the project was to reduce hunger vulnerability and improve nutrition as well as education. The five-year project, launched in 2009 in the governorates of Fayoum, Menia and Beni Suef, provided daily nutritious snacks to children enrolled in schools. These helped increase the students’ concentration level by providing 25% of their daily nutritional requirements, while it encouraged parents to enroll their children, especially girls, thanks to a monthly ration of 10 kg of rice and other commodities that the children would take home. This transfer, however, was available only to children who had high attendance level. (9Colonne)
