Oct. 30 – 4.482.115 Italian citizens live abroad and had registered to the AIRE in 1 January 2014. The number grew by 141 000 entries compared to 2013, for a 3.1% increase in a year. Most enroll under the expatriate (2,379,977) and birth (1,747,409) categories, and Argentina is the first country of residence for a great majority of Italians. The great exceptions are Italians from Campania, Puglia, Sardinia, Sicily and Trentino, who mainly live in Germany; while Lazio and Veneto natives prefer Brazil; Lombardy and Aosta natives Switzerland; and Umbrians France. The report “Italians in the World 2014” (ed. Tau) of the Fondazione Migrantes, now in its ninth edition, released the data that will now be discussed in Buenos Aires, focusing on migration yesterday and today. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 10 (6.30pm) at the Italian Institute of Culture of the Argentine capital. The meeting is entitled “Italy and the global challenges of migration today,” and will host Liliana Ferrero, President of “Incontro,” a network of Italian-Argentinian Women. The conference was organized by the Italian Embassy in Buenos Aires in collaboration with “Incontro.” Martin Lorenzini, councilor for Emigration and Social Affairs of the Embassy of Italy, will address the theme of Italy as a country of emigration and immigration; while Juan Miguel Massot, Professor of International Economics in the Economics Department of the Universidad del Salvador, and director of the Instituto de Investigación en Ciencias Económicas, will reflect on the global challenges of geopolitics in relation to the issue of migration.
