Oct. 31 – Nov. 5-15, Budapest becomes the capital of Italian cinema thanks to the MittelCinemaFest 2014 – XII Central-European Festival of Italian cinema. Both Italian and Hungarian partners have doubled, while more and more films are released in theaters across town. The 12th edition of the Festival quickly established itself as one of the most prestigious film events, followed by the Hungarian and Italian publics alike. This year, the format changes: “besides the traditional film review of Italian movies released in the past two years, – said in a statement the Italian Cultural Institute in Budapest – we will hand out a lifetime achievement award to an Italian director, chosen by an Italian-Hungarian jury; and his latest film will be screened in select cities across Hungary. There is a corner dedicated to young people, with a special screening for high school classes. We will also displau impressive photos taken on Italian sets from the 1940s onwards in the exhibition Viaggi in Italia, which indirectly shows the importance of cinema for the development of an area.” (Red)
