Nov. 6 – From the Sicilian Fasci to the murder of Joe Petrosino, passing by the arrest of mafia bosses Luciano Leggio, Salvatore Riina and Bernardo Provenzano. The exhibition “Luci dal Buio – Mafia Anti-Mafia, images for an inventory” arrives at the Italian Cultural Institute of New York, with the opening ceremony scheduled for tomorrow at 6pm. The display – which will remain at the Insitute until November 20 – features mostly unpublished photographs in black and white, depicting the main protagonists of the legality vs illegality conflict. The images narrate those painful historical facts that left a mark in Italy’s history. A story of many defeats, barbaric murders, oppression and collusions, but also of victories and the triumph of human life. The photographic exhibition was commissioned by the Italian Foundation for Law and Development “Generale dei Carabinieri Ignazio Militello,” in collaboration with the IIC in New York. “Luci dal Buio” seeks to keep our memory alive and revive two realities: the shock and disgust the violent mafia crimes trigger in the population, and the anger and desire for justice that culminates with the most effective police force operations.
