Nagoya – The essential role of universities worldwide to give substance to the concept of sustainable development was reaffirmed last week in Japan, in Nagoya, during the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development. The event, organized by UNESCO with the support of the Japanese government, saw the direct involvement of the International Association of Universities (IAU), for which the University of Siena will host the annual meeting in October 2015. “Higher education – said the Dean of the University of Siena, Angelo Riccaboni, who attended the conference in Japan as head of the IAU Working Group on Sustainable Development – can and should be a leader in the dissemination process of the concept and implementation of sustainable development.” Universities representatives agreed on a global action program focused on sustainable education to coordinate objectives and create proactive collaborations between experts worldwide.
