Nov. 26 – Masbedo is a duo composed by Nicolò Massazza and Iacopo Bedoya: the first is from Milan, the second from La Spezia. They are a couple of young video artists who live and work between Milan and Berlin. Active in the field of performance since 2009, the duo directed the feature film “The Lack,” which has been selected to represent Italy in major European film festivals. The movie, which combines video-art to cinematic languages, was screened at the 71st Venice Film Festival. The feature film brings to the screen the experience of six female characters, immersed in a sublime and primitive nature, who who embark on an inner journey to deal with separation and abandonment, rediscovering along the way the courage to put back together the pieces of their lives, to fill the emptiness. The film – which has already been screened in Copenhagen and Budapest – was selected for: the exhibition “Rendezvous with Italian cinema” in Istanbul, scheduled for November 29-December 4; the “Mostra de Cinema Italia de Barcelona” (which offers selected titles from the Cannes, Locarno, Venice, Toronto and London Film Festivals), scheduled for December 12 to 18; the Mittelcinemafest Bratislava held between Dec. 1-6; and the “Cinema Made in Italy London” scheduled from March 5-9, 2015. “I hope that The Lack contributes to expanding our methods beyond classical production techniques – says Beatrice Bulgari, producer of the film – we can and must experience through new languages, giving artists and directors the opportunity to branch out, whilst remaining craftsmen of their own work. The women depicted in The Lack represent the whole of humanity. They are the bearers of our fortitude and courage that we harness in times of distress.” “The Lack was born – says Masbedo, – as a partnership that involved into an exciting artistic adventure that gave us the chance to experiment with video art”.
