Khartoum – The Directorate General for Development Cooperation (DGCS) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has decided to make a contribution of €1 million to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The grant will be used for the construction of an initiative to support vulnerable populations in emergency situations in Sudan, with particular attention to women and children, the elderly and people with disabilities, and to support communities in conflict areas of the Darfur. The contribution will mainly provide support through the provision of first necessity goods, of materials for temporary housing and other non-food items, as well as activities aimed at facilitating the populations’ return to their places of origin. The IOM will negotiate with the DGCS the means of implementation of the initiative for a maximum duration of 12 months, and will, where possible, collaborate with Italian NGOs in the field. (9Colonne)
