New York – New York kicks off today the film festival dedicated to Mario Monicelli, with a classic selection of the Italian artist’s works. The Film Forum in New York celebrates, until December 11, with a few months in advance, the 100th birthday of the director. The tribute is centered on his works, released between the late 1950s and late 1970s. From I Soliti Ignoti, a realistic and innovative parody of the movies that launched “Italian comedy” in the world, to I Nuovi Mostri, a rare piece, conceived as a conscious farewell to the genre. And Monicelli’s “La Grande Guerra”, an unconventional epic on WWI that received the Golden Lion in Venice. Other movies will be Risate di Gioia, with Anna Magnani and Toto, I Compagni with Marcello Mastroianni, L’Armata Brancaleone, La Mortadella and Vogliamo I Colonnelli. (9Colonne)
