New York – The ICE Office and the Italian Association of Geographical Indications Consortia organized a meeting in New York last week to illustrate to a number of journalists and bloggers experts in the agri-food sector the fundamental principles of the European PDO and PGI protection systems. The event seeks to clarify the situation after the spread in the US of confusing and rarely correct information. During the meeting, data on complex systems of controls of PDO and PGI products was presented: only in 2013, more than 60,000 controls, consisting in almost 76 million laboratory tests, were carried out on 260 certified products. The meeting also saw the participation of Google that, together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, developed the “digital excellence” project for PDO and PGI products. (9Colonne)
