Feb. 10 – “Greek inspiration in Roman Naples” is a press conference scheduled for tomorrow at the Italian Cultural Institute of Toronto (6.30pm). “Pompeii – reads the presentation statement of the Institute – was a very popular destination during the Roman Empire, especially for those who loved to indulge in a Greek lifestyle, don Greek costumes and practice Greek traditions as a form of relaxation. In Naples, the Epicurean philosophy inspired Virgil and Horace.” The conference, held by Canadian writer Jordan Lancaster, will analyze the Greek lifestyle adopted in Naples and Pompeii, to understand the fascination with it during the Roman imperial period. Jordan Lancaster was born in Trail (British Columbia) and graduated in Romance Languages. She later obtained a Masters in Italian Literature and a PhD in Italian Studies at the University of Toronto. In 1992, she moved to Naples, where she continued her post doctorate studies at the Italian Institute for Historical Studies. She currently lives between London and Havana and works as a writer and translator.
