Brussels – The President of the Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia Franco Iacop is in Brussels until Friday , at the European Parliament, for the plenary session of the Committee of the Regions. The occasion opens the sixth term of the Committee, since its inception in the Treaty of Maastricht in accordance with the principles of subsidiarity and active participation of local governments to the definition and implementation of EU policies. Iacop was designated member within the new Committee by the Plenary of the Conference of Presidents of the Regional Councils. His term lasts until 2020. The Committee’s role is to ensure that EU legislation takes into account the local and regional perspectives. (9Colonne)
