Feb. 18 – The Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino has been on tour since January 23, and they’ve already received many positive reviews from influential newspapers like the New York Times and The Independent. The Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino was called “a tornado” by the US daily, while according to the English newspaper “it is rare that traditional music sounds so intense, mysterious and present.” For the New Yorker, however, “the group has few peers in the contemporary world music,” and for their Guardian “[it] was one of the most exciting concerts of Womad”. Among the many great reviews and successes, the group is now continuing its world tour, waiting for the release on April 7 of their new album: “Quaranta” (Ponderosa Music & Arts). After making the public dance in Glasgow and Budapest, the Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino is now in Italy – in Trepuzzi (Le), Turin, Milan and Rome – before heading abroad again, for two concerts by Australia in Adelaide on March 8-9, then in Auckland, New Zealand, on March 13-15. Then the group will be in Europe on March 18 in Brussels, on March 20-21 in Colombes and Rezé (France), on April 10 in Zurich, on April 11 in Darmstadt (Germany), on April 15 in Bregenz (Austria), on April 18 in Mulheim (Germany), on May 6 in Paris, on May 7 in Poitiers (France), and on July 17-18 in Oldenburg and Koblenz (Germany).
