Mar. 2 – There is a new digital “home” for young Italians in Melbourne, thanks to the Consul General of Italy, Marco Maria Cerbo, who officially launched a new Internet portal that brings together all the major Italian youth associations operating in the State of Victoria, Australia. The diverse group includes student associations, young professionals associations, Italian culture associations, as well as associations to help the newcomers. In 2014 alone, nearly 25.000 people obtained a temporary permit for Australia). In total, people of Italian origin in the state of Victoria are almost half a million, of which more than 300.000 registered during the last Australian census. The new website (www.italyaustralia.com) has attractive graphics and offers the opportunity to interact with the various participating groups. “The goal – said Consul Cerbo – is to provide a modern tool for aggregation that can serve as the basis for a future network for the participating associations. We’ve been working towards this goal for over a year, because we want to believe in our youth and the future and we want to support the growth and modernization efforts on-going in our community.” The initiative was sponsored by the Consulate General and made possible thanks to the support of the Italian Services Institute, which funded the construction of the web page.
