Apr. 15 – Mario Monicelli would have turned 100 on May 16. The brilliant director and prolific author – of great masterpieces such as La Grande Guerra and great comedies like L’Armata Brancaleone – is being honored in Argentina. The Monicelli tribute, organized by BAFICI in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Buenos Aires, lasts until April 25 as part of both the BAFICI independent film festival of Buenos Aires, and the Year of Italy in Latin America. The program includes a film retrospective, an exhibition and a panel discussion. The exhibition, entitled “Rap per Mario” will be open to the public starting tomorrow at the Centro Cultural Recoleta. It consists of installations and unpublished photographs of Monicelli, carried out by Chiara Rapaccini, plastic artist and widow of the director. On Saturday at 3:30pm, a round table with Chiara Rapaccini and Lorenzo Codelli, curator of film retrospective, as well as other experts will animate the afternoon.
