Munich – More trucks will be transported on freight trains between Italy and Germany, thanks to the rolling motorway ROLA, which for the second half of May increases its capacity to 23 wagons per train. The novelty will be presented in Munich during Transport Logistic 2015, trade fair scheduled from tomorrow until Friday. This is the first time a private company achieves this on the Brenner axis, on the Scandinavia – Mediterranean Corridor. The capacity increase allows for the transport of more trucks: up to 1,200 trucks diverted from road transport. The new rolling motorway service ROLA, born thanks to the joint initiative of Trenitalia Cargo and private operator Trasposervizi, connects with four daily trips the 458 kilometers separating Interport Roncafort (Trento) to Regensburg (Munich). Accompanied combined transport ensures that the truck travels on the train while the driver can rest in a sleeper coach. The model favors trucking companies, in terms of fuel efficiency, driver rest and increased productivity, as well as reducing road congestion, CO2 emissions (-80%) and energy consumption (-77%).
