June 8 – The Sardinian guitarist Paolo Angeli is in Prague, for a workshop (on Friday, June 12 at 6pm at the Galerie Skolska) and a concert (on Saturday, June 13 at 2pm at Park “Ladronka”) within the International Music Festival “Respect Festival”, now in its eighteenth edition. The Festival takes place in the Czech capital this weekend, with the media support of the Italian Cultural Institute. Angeli began playing guitar at 9, growing up in Palau in Gallura, in an extremely challenging musical environment. Struck by his encounter with Giovanni Scanu – Luras guitarist who died at 95 – the artist learned to shape and form the Gallura and Logudurese guitar. From the encounter/clash between the extra-cultured vanguard and popular tradition, between 1993 and 1996, Angeli developed the prepared Sardinian guitar movement: a 18-string orchestra instrument, a hybrid between the baritone guitar, the cello and the drums – with hammers, pedals, variable pitch propellers. With this unique tool, Paolo improvises and composes unclassifiable music, suspended between free jazz, folk noise, and minimal pop. (Red)
