June 9 – “The Women” makes its theater debut: the novel by Alberto Moravia, brought to the big screen in 1960 by Vittorio De Sica, who directed Sophia Loren in the title role, will have its world premiere in San Francisco on June 13, organized by the Opera of San Francisco and the Teatro Regio of Turin in collaboration with Studio Legale Cau Morandi Minutillo Turtur and the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco. The cruelty of war, lost innocence and the intense love of a mother for her daughter are just some of the issues addressed by Marco Tutino (music and libretto) and Fabio Ceresa (booklet) in the play that goes on stage at the War Memorial Opera House. Nicola Luisotti will conduct the orchestra of the Opera of San Francisco, while Francesca Zambello directs the outstanding cast, which features Anna Caterina Antonacci in the role of Ciociara. Antonacci has been defined by the New York Times as an actress of “intelligent and charismatic artistry.”
