24 June, 2015 – Fincantieri, a leading cruise ships construction company, and Virgin Cruises, part of the British Virgin Group and new operator in the cruise sector, have signed a binding letter of intent for the construction of three cruise ships. The finalization of the agreement is scheduled for the last quarter of 2015. The new units will each weigh 110,000 gross tons and will be equipped with 1,430 cabins that can accommodate more than 2,800 passengers, assisted by a crew of 1150 people. Delivery is scheduled for 2020, 2021 and 2022. “I am honored – commented the Fincantieri CEO, Giuseppe Bono – that Virgin Cruises chose our company as a partner for such an important program debut in the cruise industry. I am convinced that this decision will help expand the number of cruise passengers, and I am sure that both our teams will create an innovative project that will offer passengers an unforgettable experience. This agreement increases the number of our clients and strengthens our global leadership position. Our current workload allows us to make an important contribution to the recovery of our country: our employees and suppliers can now rely with confidence on the continuity of work for a long period of time.” (Red)
