Washington – NIAF, The National Italian American Foundation, organized a fundraiser for one of the spires of Milan’s Cathedral. The event managed, with its Save the Saint campaign, to put together $160,000 and adopt Santa Francesca Cabrini’s spire. “For us, it’s a source of pride and honor to have been chosen as the region of honor by NIAF and I want to thank the association and the foundation for their initiative,” commented the President of the Lombardy Region Roberto Maroni. The spire chosen by Italian-American organization is dedicated to Francesca Cabrini, born in Sant’Angelo Lodigiano in 1850 and who later emigrated to the United States where, in 1946, she was the first US citizen of Italian origin to be proclaimed a saint. With this great initiative, “we strengthen even further the ties between Lombardy and the US,” explained Maroni. (9Colonne)
