Baku – On the sands of Baku, the Italian National Beach Soccer Team defeated 6-4 the world champions – the Russian team – and is officially back on course for the qualifications to the European Games semifinals. Tomorrow, victory against Hungary would guarantee the Italian team a safe passage to the next phase. The extraordinary success with Russia saw the team stay united and strong, able to immediately bounce back after the unfortunate defeat at the penalties in the opening game against Spain. The stars were Captain Corosiniti; Gori, who scored twice; Palmaccim who played with a temperature; and coach Massimiliano Esposito. But more importantly it’s a victory for the twelve players who placed the concept of team above that of individuality. (9Colonne)
