13 July, 2015 – Red strings as roots branch out from a central strain, reaching trunks and other elements in space, creating an intricate network; a piezoelectric microphone is positioned within the central stump and amplifies all the vibrations of the wires: the installation becomes a giant contrabass, and the wires sound if pinched or rubbed. This unique and original performance is brought to the stage by the collective Italian S’odinonsuonare in Canada, formed by Alessio Mazzaro, Valentina Zanon and Marco Campana. The group was invited by artist Gordon Monahan to perform at the Electric Eclectic festival, a review of experimental music and sound art held in Meaford, Ontario. S’odinonsuonare wants to transform space into a place where the public can interact with the work of art entitled Radici. The company highlights the relationship between gesture and sound, including music composition and choreography. Alessio Mazzaro creates each time a different network, based on the space that houses the installation. When the audience enters the space, Alessio or another performer plays the wires, creating a performance that introduces the audience into the magic of the installation. After the show, the audience is free to play with the strings and explore the work. The show – scheduled for Friday, July 31 and Sunday, August 2 – is sponsored by the Italian Cultural Institute of Toronto. (Red)
