14 July, 2015 – Neapolitan Antonio Maiello has been entrusted with the task of creating a festival in Casablanca bringing together and “mixing” artists-musicians of the Mediterranean basin. It will be called “Maestro Maiello et les amis du Monde,” and the event makes its debut on 1 August. The first edition of the musical event has the collaboration of all the highest local institutions – with the patronage of the Consulate General of Italy – and promises to be a great event for folk music lovers and aficionados of typical Italian melodies. The evening will feature a special appearance by Said Chraibi, the Moroccan musician considered one of the great virtuosos of the lute in the Arab world. Maiello – known to the general public for the successful experience of “I Fatti Vostri” (1990/95), in which he managed to bring the great live performances of traditional Italian music into an extremely popular format – will perform with his ensemble “Les Amis du Monde” composed of great Italian, Tunisians, Egyptians, Moroccans, and French artists. The musician has captivated audiences in Italy and abroad thanks to his unique compositions, the result of his always thoughtful and timely search for Mediterranean sounds. “They are compositions – the artist explains – that want to strongly speak to a complex world, to unite cultures with the primary objective of trying to bring out the best of the universal language that is, in fact, music.” The Festival “Maestro Maiello et les amis du monde” is part of a wider cultural project by the artist, based on the “Vivre ensemble” (“Living Together”) concept. On stage, there will be an exceptional line-up: Jacqueline Maria Ferry (vocals, Franco-Italian), Julia Rota (violin, French), Carmen Falato (sax, Italian), Lotfi Soua (percussion, Tunisia), Ahmed Hassan (Tannouri dance, Egypt) ; Max Iannantuono (drums, Italy) Alesandro Patti (bass, Italy), and Mouhsine Latfaoui (Moroccan singer).
