15 July, 2015 – It’s one of the typical desserts of the Neapolitan tradition, perhaps the typical Neapolitan pastry for excellence: the babà. This specialty made in Italy is at the center of the Italian Week of Montréal. This year’s edition pays tribute to the Campania region, also by bringing in some of Montreal’s best pastry chefs for a contest to offer the public the best recipe for babà, a sweet made of soft dough wet with rum. “The event – reads the presentation statement – is scheduled for Sunday, August 17 at 2pm at Shamrock, on the corner of rue Saint-Laurent and rue Shamrock”. The jury will be composed of personalities from Québec. “I’m glad they chose this particular pastry – explains Marie- France Bazzo, member of the jury and TV presenter – for years I have been looking for a good babà in Montréal. As a member of the jury, I will look for balance between the consistency of the dough and the quality of the liquor. A good baba must be spongy, soft, with a light crust and not too soggy.” Gourmands and lovers of Neapolitan tradition cannot miss the appointment and the following tasting session. (Red)
