30 July, 2015 – After Chile 2014, this year South Africa hosts the Sol d’Oro Southern Hemisphere, a competition dedicated to extra virgin olive oil products “from the other half of the world,” organized by Veronafiere. On Sept. 7-11, Cape Town will become the world capital of extra virgin olive oil through a competition that wants to raise awareness of quality olive oils produced in the southern hemisphere. In its very first edition, Sol d’Oro Southern Hemisphere attracted the interest of some seventy producers, who participated in the event. The initiative has proven to be a great opportunity for visibility for the winners, who were presented to international buyers at Sol & Agrifood 2015, put in the olive oil tasting bar along with the oils that won the Sol d’Oro Northern Hemisphere – which takes place in Verona – and they were inserted in the guide “Le stele del Sol d’Oro,” published annually by Veronafiere and distributed to buyers and journalists around the world.
