11 August, 2015 – During the Italian Week of Montréal (ongoing until August 16 in the Canadian city), the Sardi del Québec Association has paired up with the Italian Cultural Institute of the city to present the Sardinia Film Day, a review of Paolo Zucca’s movies. The event begins on August 15 at 3:30pm at Casa d’Italia. Zucca, in his iconic ironic lense, depicts a section of Italian society still radicated in its local culture and tradition. The screening begins with “L’arbitro” (an Italian-Argentinian production starring Stefano Accorsi, Geppi Cucciari and Francesco Pannofino). The Atletico Pabarile is a Sardinian team playing in the Third Catergory. Every year, it loses against Montecrastu, coached by the arrogant Brai. When the young Matzutzi, football player who had emigrated in Argentina, return to Sardinia and starts playing for Pabarile, the team wins one match after the other. The stories of the two teams are interlinked to that of referee Cruciani and the pastoralism of two Montecrastu players. The evening continues with “Bella di Notte,” an animated short film that won the David di Donatello. With Stefano Accorsi’s voice-over, Zucca tells the story of a young musician who escapes his daily routine dreaming of adventures and love stories with beautiful women from past eras. The main character becomes the symbol of those who use imagination to escape reality and become entrapped in it.
