New York – Professor Michele Cometa, who teaches “Comparative Literature and Visual Culture” at the Department of Culture and Society, was invited to the Italian Academy in New York for the 2015/2016 academic year. The academy, whose Honorary President is Italian Republic President Sergio Mattarella, is an outpost of Italian excellence in the United States. An integral part of Columbia University, the Italian Academy has become, under the direction of David Freedberg, one of the landmarks of interdisciplinary research, holding together traditional theoretical research on the arts and the new vanguards of neuroscience, evolutionary biology and paleontology. Professor Cometa will participate in the project “Emotion, Embodiment and the History of Art and Music: Aesthetics, History and Anthropology,” and will continue his studies on the origin of the arts that he began at Clark Art Institute (Williamstown, MA) with a research entitled “The Challenge of Cave Art: Old and New Paradigms in Aesthetics and Visual Culture “.
