September 16th, 2015 – Fifty years of international success that the McCord Museum is celebrating with the exhibition “Montreal through the eyes of Vittorio: 50 years of urban life and graphic creations,” on display from September 25 to April 10, 2016. The show is dedicated to the Italian-born designer Vittorio Fiorucci, who died in 2008. The exhibition, set up in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal, will be presented Wednesday, Sept. 23 (11am) in the presence of the curator of the exhibition, Marc Choko. The public will have the opportunity to admire the work of a designer who is known for his simple shapes, bright colors, contrasting characters and enigmatic looks. Fiorucci’s art tells the story of the encounter with the culture of his adopted city, Montreal. His original artistic creations have different facets, which present an eclectic, ever-changing scene, in which Montréal confirms its role of cultural metropolis. The liveliness of Fiorucci’s style, his varied and colorful forms, express the dynamism that characterizes the Canadian city from the 1960s until 2000. The artist, always been a keen observer, participated directly in the urban transformation of Montréal, a former industrial city that began releasing its cultural potential in all directions. Fiorucci’s works, more than a thousand including posters, photographs, catalogs, books, album covers and comics, accompany the exhibition visitors on a journey through the imagination of the artist and the history of the city.
