October 14th, 2015 – Contaminated with English words, threatened by the WhatsApp emojis, “offended” by abbreviations that are used in text messages and chats, the Italian language seems to be suffering its worst crisis yet. However, around the world everyone is getting ready to celebrate the 15th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, which will take place October 19-24. This year’s theme is “Italiano della Musica, Musica dell’Italiano”. There are many initiatives, events, and shows being organized all over the world, and one of them is taking place in Lisbon, on Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Italian Institute of Culture. Massimo Roscia and Davide Zilli will be giving a musical reading of “The massacre of the subjunctive on tour.” Who killed the Culture Councilor? But, above all, who will save grammar? Five bizarre characters, cleverly described, come together for a large criminal operation to save a language vilified, disfigured and wounded daily. Roscia, author of the book “Il massacre del congiuntivo” (2014, Exòrma) will talk about what and how Italian is abused; he will entertain the public with a long series of blunders collected by him and by his fans… Roscia will be accompanied, voice and piano, by the singer-songwriter Davide Zilli. Zilli will also present his piece “The subjunctive is gone”: song-manifesto of an Italy that is changing, even its language. (Red)
