October 29th, 2015 – The Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Rome, along with the Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris, this December officially become the first airports in Europe for direct connections with Chinese cities. This confirms Fiumicino’s leadership in this market segment, as well as the attractiveness of Rome and its main airport for passengers from the East. Starting from December 9, a new route that will connect directly Rome to the city of Xi’an will make its debut. The route will be operated by Hainan Airlines, a private airline in China, which will offer two flights per week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The new connection provides a direct link between Rome and one of the most important cities in Chinese history, one of the four ancient capitals of China, famous for the Terracotta Army on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The route will be operated with an Airbus A330 with 260 seats. By December, Rome will be connected with the Chinese cities of Guangzhou and Wuhan, thanks to new flights by China Southern. In this way Rome Fiumicino becomes the only airport within the EU to host all major Chinese carriers (Air China, China Eastern, China Southern and Hainan), with 7 Chinese destinations directly connected to Rome: the new ones join those already established with Beijing, Chonqqing, Shanghai, and Wenzhou. For quite some time now, the Rome airport has also been connected to Taiwan and Hong Kong. (Red)
