Maputo – As a result of the “5th Licensing Round Competitive Mozambique”, Eni, together with Statoil, Sasol and ENH, was awarded the exploration and development rights for the offshore block A-5A, in Mozambique, called Angoche, in the deep waters of the North of the Zambezi Basin, about 1,500 kilometers northeast of Maputo. The block, which covers a total area of 5,145 square kilometers in water depths between 200 and 1,800 meters, is located in a completely unexplored area that the consortium believes could contain huge resources of hydrocarbons. Eni, through its subsidiary Eni Mozambique, is the operator of the consortium with a stake of 34%. The other partners are Statoil and Sasol with 25.5% each, and the Mozambican state company Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), with 15%. Eni has been present in Mozambique since 2006 and is the operator of Area 4 with an indirect 50% stake through its subsidiary Eni East Africa. In Area 4, following an intense campaign of exploration and appraisal, between 2011 and 2014, supergiant natural gas resources were discovered, estimated at 2.407 billion cubic meters. The other partners in the Area 4 are Galp Energia, KOGAS and ENH with 10% each. CNPC holds a 20% indirect stake through Eni East Africa. (9Colonne)
