November 11th, 2015 – The “Italy of today and tomorrow: opportunities and challenges” is a special lecture with that Nando Pagnoncelli, president of Ipsos Italy, brought to students in Prague. The initiative – which was held at the Department of Social Sciences in Prague and saw the attendance of Ambassador Aldo Amati, the director of the Italian Cultural Giovanni Scioli and many students – was organized in the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Italian Embassy in Prague and the Institute of International Studies of the Department of Social Sciences of Charles University. Pagnoncelli illustrated Italy today, its social climate and political scenarios. Starting with the country’s demographic problem and its consequences – decrease of youth entrepreneurship, the need for foreign workers, renewal of the welfare system – Pagnoncelli the discussed the discrepancy between reality and public perception that drives the main political choices. “The discussions with Czech students – said in a statement the Italian Embassy – allowed to turn the spotlight on the double social divide: lack of trust in institutions and a precarious sense of belonging and social cohesion: both burdensome factors at the local and global scale.” An authentic renewal would come by, according to Pagnoncelli, only through a gradual anthropological maturation based on the assumption of individual responsibility in decision-making and change.
