November 19th, 2015 – There is a new robotic hand on the market, capable of pouring coffee into a cup and hold a bill or a credit card between its fingertips. Humanoids, the most important international conference in the field of humanoid robotics recently held in South Korea, praised the robotic hand developed by the laboratories of the Pisa University Piaggio Center and the Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa. The “Pisa-IIT Softhand PLUS” is an evolution of the Pisa-IIT Softhand, which was able to grab the most common objects using a single motor. The hand had been praised in 2012 during the same conference for its absolute innovation in approach to the study of robotic hands. The new hand has two engines, and is able not only to grasp, but also to manipulate objects in a more skillful manner than the first version. The Softhand PLUS may, only with the movement of the fingers, carry out small actions very useful in everyday life: small gestures made with a dexterity comparable to that of a young child, instead of that of a newborn (ie: the skills of the first robotic hand).(Red)
