December 11th, 2015 – The Italian government and businesses are working together to boost economic and commercial relations between Italy and Ethiopia. Indeed, yesterday began the last Italian economic mission of 2015 to the African country, led by the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda. The Minister is accompanied by 15 major Italian companies, by the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mario Giro, and the President of the Italian Trade Agency Riccardo Maria Monti. This mission concludes a year of intense meetings between the two countries: in January, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni visited; then in July Prime Minister Matteo Renzi also traveled to the East African country. The current mission, which ends today, will see ACIMIT (the Italian Industrial Textile Machinery Manufacturers Association) and TIDI (the Ethiopian Textile Industrial Development Institute) sign a memorandum of understanding that will be the basis for the creation of a technology center within TIDI, where the ITA and ACIMIT will study local textile production, and will select and provide the most suitable machinery. The MoU also provides for the training of local technicians who will operate the technology center, while the Ethiopians will provide for the construction of a building that will host training activities in favor of local companies.
