Beijing – “During my visit to China, and in particular the meeting with Prime Minister Li Keqiang, the intention to re-launch relations between Italy and China was unanimous, in the wake of China’s strong participation at EXPO Milano 2015 and the productive exchange that occurred during the institutional visits in recent months,” writes the President of the Senate Pietro Grasso in a message sent at the end of his visit to Beijing. “We confirmed the intention to further consolidate this strategic partnership, also intensifying political meetings of the highest level over the course of 2016. We agreed that the coincidence between the five-year period that will lead to 2020 (50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, and the conclusion of China’s 13th five-year program) – is a unique occasion to promote new synergies in strategic sectors,” including, stressed Grasso, the social state and health services, the environment, sustainable food production, food security and the fight against corruption. “With the Prime Minister, we confirmed the importance of cooperation between China, Italy and the European Union in the solution of instability factors in the Mediterranean and the Middle East and the fight against international terrorism. China recognizes the central role of Italy in this area and in the management of migration and refugee flows to Europe.” Grasso also expressed particular appreciation for “the dedication, skill and passion with which the officials and all employees of the Italian Embassy in Beijing, headed by Ambassador Ettore Sequi, represent the Italian Republic.”(9Colonne)
