Ljubljana – Relations between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Slovenia are about to improve thanks to new trade, tourism and culture initiatives. This was the focus of the meeting between the Cultural Councilor for the Region Gianni Torrenti and the Slovenian MP Matjaz Nemec. “The elimination of borders was viewed more like the end of a process than the beginning of a new one,” commented Torrenti in the meeting with Nemec, who is part of the Foreign Affairs Committee and closely monitors relations with Italy. Relations between the two countries are good – stated the two during the meeting – but there is still a lot of untapped potential. Among the examples cited by Matjaz Nemec, there was the recollection that in 2016 we celebrate the 110th anniversary since the completion of the Jesenice-Trieste railway, a crucial piece of infrastructure for the economic development of both cities. Today, explained Nemec, this railway could become a catalyst for cultural and sports-oriented tourism, especially in the Gorizia area. And regarding the two Gorizia, Councilor Torrenti called for them to become one entity with increased cooperation especially in the health care department. (9colonne)
