(4 January 2016) “Born Free” is an album that mixes distant sounds. Born from a meeting between the Puglia pianist Livio Minafra and South African drummer Louis Moholo-Moholo, the album is an encounter full of emotions between two musicians of different ages, history and geography, but united by the same love for improvisation and risk. In the last days of 2015, the project received the honorable mention in the “Best of the Year” ranking compiled by “The New York City Jazz Record.” The album has also allowed the Cape Town drummer to win the title of best musician of Africa for 2015. “Born Free” was developed in three major concerts the duo held in Italy and Germany (Talos Festival 2014, Internationales Jazzfestival of Münster and Bielefeld Jazz Festival 2015).
