Alabama – Civitan International has appointed Barbara Contini with the Honorary Membership. Based in Birmingham, Alabama, Civitan International is an international organization of service clubs for the community founded in 1917. Contini, an official of international organizations, an expert on political affairs and security, has worked nearly three decades abroad, especially in crisis areas and in developing countries. She speaks seven languages, including Arabic and Japanese and was a special correspondent of the Presidency of the Council in Darfur. Her international fame is due to her role as governor of the Iraqi province of Nasiriyah, on the temporary nomination of American-led coalition during the years of Iraq War. Contini was elected senator in Italy in the 16th legislature. “Barbara Contini – says the Secretary General for Italy of Civitan International, Carmelo Cutuli – is a great friend of the United States and an expert in international cooperation recognized and appreciated by all major international organizations. Having offered her support to our organization since 2012, the year in which Civitan International began operating in Italy, it is therefore an honor for us to count on her as one of the Honorary Members of our organization, among whom there have been US presidents and members of Congress.” (9Colonne)
