(15 January 2016) Racism, integration, roots, and identity will be at the center of talks at the Italian Institute of Culture in Berlin on Tuesday, Jan. 19 (at 7pm). The occasion is a presentation of the book “La mia casa è dove sono” by Igiaba Scego. Born in Rome in 1974 from Somali parents (her father, Foreign Affairs Minister, chose an exile in Italy after the military coup by Siad Barre), Igiaba Scego is today a journalist and writer who defines herself a “black Roman of Somali origin and Italian by vocation. An Afro-Italian of composite identity and a second-generation author.” “La mia casa è dove sono” – which won the Mondello Prize in 2011 – is her fourth novel. Today, Igiaba Scego lives in Rome, where she writes or works, collaborating with several magazines and newspapers specialized in migration and African cultures. Her work is primarily focused on the dialogue between cultures and migration, characterized by the delicate balance between her cultural affiliations, the Italian and Somali one. The meeting at the Institute (in Italian with translation into German) will see the presence of Elisabetta Gaddoni as moderator. (PO / red)
