(2 February 2016) The Italian Embassy in Asunción presented to the press the three Italian plastic surgeons (Marco Stabile, Gianluca Alessandro Gatti and Alessandro Giacomina) that are collaborating with the non-profit organization AICEP. The three will participate – Dr. Stabile for his second year – in the volunteer program “Ñemyatyro Paraguay” (Reconstruction in Paraguay). Designed by the Paraguayan Ministry of Health through the National Burn Center, directed by Dr. Bruno Balmelli – a Paraguay of Italian origin, the program includes 1,100 free surgeries for the benefit of patients with serious conditions and lack of sufficient means. The three Italian doctors are currently in the company of French plastic surgeon Roland Boileau: the French-Italian team, operating together from 26 January to 7 February, will carry out more than 280 reconstructive surgeries, for free, giving the poorer segments of the population the chance to undergo surgery without the need to travel to the capital. The program includes three surgeries of high complexity in the Centro Nacional del Quemado (carried out last week), 100 surgeries in the Hospital of Ñemby, and 180 operations for the patients in three hospitals of the Health Region VIII in the Misiones Department. This experience will benefit especially children, the elderly and adults with special, serious diseases (such as burns, congenital malformations to the hands and feet, cleft lip and palate, skin cancer and pathological scars) for whom reconstructive surgery represents the beginning of a new life .
