Rio de Janeiro – CONI announced that it will stand alongside Action Aid to help the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. “We have created a common thread between ourselves and Brazil on this social issue,” explained President Giovanni Malagò during today’s presentation in Rome of the paper “Italy and the fight against poverty in the world? Agenda 360.” Many are the initiatives supported by the Italian Olympic Committee, together with its sponsors, including the construction of a soccer field in the City of God favela, a training course on nutrition and sport in the Rocinha favela. Malagò explains why CONI chose Action Aid, and stressed that “it’s a serious organization whose professionalism guarantees that things get done and that has a strong link with Brazil.” CONI’s president also stressed that “in Brazil, there is Casa Italia, which is in the most important club of the country. Once there, we will also be able to count on a collaboration with RAI.” (9Colonne)
