(22 February 2016) Marcello Canova, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Ohio State University in Columbus, was awarded the prestigious “Early Career Development Award” by the National Science Foundation (NSF) of the United States. The funds will help Canova develop his research proposal on “New architectures for the development of Model-Order Reduction methodologies for the control of the accumulation systems in electric vehicles.” The National Science Foundation is an independent federal agency created by the US Congress in 1950 to promote the progress of science, including identifying and promoting the activities of the most effective researchers working in American universities. Canova’s research will see the participation of Ford Motor Company and General Motors Corporation, which will cooperate to transfer and apply the developed technologies. The award provides Canova with a $500,000 grant disbursed over five years for the development of solutions and methodologies aimed at creating control-oriented mathematical models for the optimization of control systems and energy storage devices in high performance electric vehicles, and for the estimation and control of charge and discharge dynamics.
