Rome – The Supreme Defense Council “took stock of the situation in crisis areas, with particular reference to recent developments in the conflicts in Syria and Iraq. The Council also assessed the contributions our Armed Forces ensure in ongoing operations in Iraq and further reinforcements that may be provided in support of the training of coalition forces as well as assistance and recovery activities in favor of dispersed personnel. The Council also carefully evaluated the situation in Libya, with reference both to the troubled path of the Government of National Accord and the preparations for a possible military support mission at the request of the Libyan authorities,” reads a statement released at the end of Supreme Defense Council, presided yesterday at the Quirinale Palace by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella.
